Week 05 (Journal 52) - Abstract Art Inspiration

Abstract Art is our week prompt for Week 05/52.  When I got the prompt I was excited coz I just love abstract art.  It was a funny moment for us who participated in Journal 52 because a lot got confused on Abstract Art and so one of the participants took a kind effort on explaining the difference between Abstract art Non-Objective Art.  Just in case you get confused, too, here is a simple explanation to which I quote Ms. Tina Grimes "I think many people are confusing Abstract vs. Non-Objective Art. This came up in college a time or two, and when I was teaching high school art my students often struggled with it. So I just wanted to offer some explanation, in case it will help anyone here who is struggling with it. Abstract Art has recognizable images/objects in it, however they are distorted from reality by the artist. Cubism is a great example of this, as is Picasso's art. Non-Objective Art, on the other hand, has no recognizable objects in it; it's all about the treatment of the surface, the colors, etc. The art of Jackson Pollock is a very good example of this. When you look at Non-Objective art, you simply don't see anything recognizable in it. When you look at Abstract art you DO see recognizable objects, they just are not depicted in a realistic way. This is how I was taught to understand Abstract vs. Non-Objective in college. I hope it will help someone here."
Ok, back to Journal 52 ...... as what is written:
"Abstract art is defined as art that does not attempt to represent external, recognizable reality but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.

“Abstract artists tell their stories with shapes, color, edges, movement, and value – just like when one is painting a beautiful scene. The difference is, of course, there is no scene. The scene is within the artist.” – Gwen Fox

For this week’s prompt, create an abstract art page in your journal. Use colors, shapes, lines, textures. You can choose whether to paint, draw, or collage."

What I created for this prompt?  Well, I worked on it only last night coz I had to find my Spritzer which I bought last November 2013.  I really wanted to try the tool and luckily I found it just when I almost gave up.   I admit I need to learn more on how to use the tool properly coz I felt uncomfortable but I love what I achieved after playing with the tool and the Sharpie pens.  Spritzer by Perfect Paper Crafting says one can use any pens/markers but with all the pens/markers that I have the Copic Markers and the Pro-Markers wouldn't fit at all :(  I ended up using my Papermania and Sharpie pens.  How I wish all as in ALL pens do fit!

After looking at it thoroughly I entitled it "Moodswing" due to the faces with different emotions that I see.  Yes, I added glass beads  at the edge and used the alphabet beads to spell my title.

Anniversary Greetings to Orlis!

Oh my golly a great friend here at Multiply is celebrating her 5th year anniversary with a blast.  I'm so happy to have her as one of my friends and she surely creates lots of beautiful things eversince I have known her.

CONGRATULATIONS to you Orlis and cheers!  Wishing that we will stay friends as long as we live =)


Orlis has a simple request and that i say something about my world of crafting and here goes .....

1.  Crafting is not new to me coz I grew up in an artistic / creative parents.  While I was a little girl I was already amazed on color mediums and I always have that in my bag and bedroom.  With that being said, in college, my theses was textile designing and my designs were all colorful to the point that one big textile firm bought all my designs.

2.   I started expanding my craft  ..... and crafting seriously when I gave birth to my son last 2003.  When I say serious it means addiction hahahhahahhaha.  Living in a foreign land and not knowing a lot of people I opted to find something that will divert my mind from longingness back home to the Philippines.  That addiction grew really big and from that day forward my day is not complete without crafting.  It actually depresses me when I don't do crafting at all.

3.  I'm not really into cardmaking but once in a while I create few.  I'm more comfortable in creating unique things like recycling or something that needs altering and concocting a craft recipe.

4.  My craft room is small and every corner and nook is well occupated by craft materials and tools that I have an extension craft room at the basement.  Anything to do with paper crafting it's in my main craft room ... jewelry making, all kinds of needleworks and sewing, painting, altering are all being done at the basement.

5.  I'm one person when having a new tool like Gypsy, Cricut Expression, etc, is slow to act.  I use it when I have the urge and usually it will take months before I even try it hahahhahahahaha.  As of this writing, my gypsy is nearly a year older but have not been totally abused but as for my Cricut oh well it has been used and used and used only after a year of staring at it hehehehehehehhehehe =)

6.  I don't copy anybody's work coz for me that is a mortal sin in the world of crafting.  One can only be inspired and the execution is up to you.  It disgust me when I hear some crafters who just literally copy somebody's work!!!! It makes me so sad when someone would copy my work or be inspired with my creations without proper accreditation.  Usch!  making it look like and claiming it's your own idea but actually not repels me!!!!!  For me such person is not a crafter at all!

7.  I'm raising a son who is very creative in his own way and it makes my day complete when I see his artworks.  One thing he is so great with is art journaling and wishing I can do the same hahahahahahahah.

8.  I was once a cross-stitcher but gave it up when my dad died.  Every cross-stitch project  I did has a story to tell and to this day I have no guts to post any of it coz by just typing down the story behind on each project really makes me cry most of the time. 

9.  Jewelry making I have done that a long time ago together with my mom.  We would always create a jewelry set to match our clothes especially when I have a party to attend to.  I have given up such craft after my mom died and it's only this year ... this festive season that I'm making beaded accessories in honor of my mom =)

10.  People who come to my site and leave love and kindness makes me feel complete.  For me it surely is a sign of great respect.  Usually those who drop by in any of my craft sitesand never leave a message at all are usually those who copy hahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha.  May God bless them with true meaning of creativity =)

Another Blog Candy !!!!

Scraplagret's Blog Candy

Scraplagret, one of my favorite internet shop here in Sweden is having a blog candy.  Although I know I have no luck when it comes to any kind of raffle, I will take my chance this time.  Emma, the owner of Scraplagret is really a kind and understanding woman and last January she invited me to be one of the guest designer.  It meant so much too me coz it was my first time to be invited here in Sweden.

First and foremost (belated) Happy Scrapbooking Day!!!

Here I am again to give you some treats!  Claire Langan, Joan Switalski, and I are conducting each a blog candy.  This is my second time to host such so to all fellow crafters join us in celebrating this special occasion for the whole month of May by joining our blog candies.  Don't you miss making a scrapbook layout?  I do :(  Your first time?  Then hop on to our blog candies and find inspirations.  Now is really the perfect time for us to start preserving those memories.

Lucky Winner of My First Ever Blog Candy =D

First of all I'm very thankful for those who joined my very first blog candy at my Multiply site.  I was in awe how dedicated each one of them in creating almost everyday (if not everyday) projects that gave inspiration and fun to everyone.  Craft goodies here are limited and quite expensive but I have few extras that I'd rather share than forever keep it at the basement or sell it to fellow crafters here in Sweden.  Although my craft goodies are very simple, I am deeply touched that they spent time and effort in joining my blog candy.

How I wish I have more extras so I can give more and give each one of the participants but someday I know I can do that.  Let me save some more hehehehehehehehehehe.

Was I a good host of my very first Blog Candy?  I know as a host I should visit each one of you and leave some love and kindness but if I miss to see or comment on a project of yours please shout out and I will surely appreciate that.  I think somewhere along the way due to some unexpected circumstances here at home I missed out a few but please bear in mind that I tried all my best hahahahahahahahahaha.

How did I draw the winner?

Midnight of 31 March 2010, I used Excel Spread Sheet to one-by-one list all the names of entries starting from the first one who submitted up to the last - cut-off-time. 

I asked my son to click the button from the Random Number Generator and it's #126.  Sorry but he refuse to be taken a pix - he's not actually in a good mood due to pre-empted nice dream hahahahahahhaha.  But with all honesty we did not tamper in getting the winning number.

A little Story behind:

Actually the first number Joseph got was #204 and that number is equivalent to JOAN.  But, prior to raffle drawing, Joan told me that eventhough she loves the goodies in my BC especially the flowers from Thailand, she requested that she'd rather not win and let the others win.  She knows very well that countries outside US (yeah that includes Sweden hehehehhe) has very limited or hard to access craft goodies.  She lives In US and she can easily access all the yummy goodies we all wish for. She still joined my blog candy to have fun =D  Also, for those who are wondering why Claire did not join my BC is the same reason as Joan's.  Aren't these 2 ladies angels on earth?????

My First Ever Blog Candy

It's my very first time to hold a blog candy at my Multiply Site and it was done in conjunction to the National Craft Month celebration last month, March 2010.  The whole month I was creating and creating for I also joined 2 blog candies sponsored by my 2 fellow dear crafters.  We all had  a blast for it's the time fo the year where we all inspire each other on a maximum level.  The lucky winner was also drawn 1st day of April but that's another story hehehehehehehe.
